The Solanus Casey Center is a Catholic Community Services drop-in center providing first rate hospitality assistance on James Street: 1008 James near Boren Street. Large numbers of persons and families use the facility on a daily basis. The landscape was dismal until recently, with a irrigation system that was shut off and dead or dying plants languishing along a noisy street. The plant budget was $250 and plants included hardy grasses, ferns and shrubs. We got the irrigation system back up to snuff and finished the planting with black mushroom mulch and arbor chips. One important point, arbor chips carry far more nutrients for plantings than do the popular Beauty Bark products.
